An ACTIVE CASE indicates that a student or staff member has tested positive for an active COVID-19 infection.  Once this individual has met IDPH requirements to return to school, he/she is no longer considered an active case and is removed from the dashboard.

IN QUARANTINE indicates that a student or staff member has had close contact with a case of COVID-19 and is remaining home to monitor for symptoms and prevent the spread of infection should they develop symptoms and COVID-19 infection.  Once this individual has met IDPH requirements to return to school, he/she is no longer considered an individual in quarantine and is removed from the dashboard.  (This number does not include travel quarantines.)

Based on active cases and close contacts, the school district may decide to quarantine a classroom or grade level.  A decision to do so will inflate the “IN QUARANTINE” number for that particular week.  In the event of this happening, an additional number will be included in our reporting that will show the number of classrooms that have been quarantined and the total number of students in these classrooms will appear in parenthesis.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new guidance that reduces the recommended time for isolation and quarantine periods from 10 days to 5 days.  This new guidance has been adopted by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).  This new guidance and the reduction in quarantine days is reflected in the table below.
